The African buffalo was hunted and eradicated in the Kruger National Park. In previous years, the Big 5 were hunted by big game hunters. Buffaloes were one of the big trophies every hunter had to get. Furthermore, farmers had problems with the buffalo, because you did not want to be driven away. Diseases such as foot-and-mouth disease reduced the stocks in the Kruger Park as well. Gradually the number of buffaloes become smaller and smaller, until none were left.
Today, the African buffalo is back in the Kruger National Park. You will be able to observe more than 27,000 buffalo on your visit to the park.
